On February 22nd. 1892, the then Chief of the Main Directorate of Public Strolls of Buenos Aires, the architect Don Carlos Thays, elevated to the Municipal Intendant, Don Francisco Bollini, a project where it exposed the necessity of the creation of a Botanical Garden.
The Garden opened to the public six years later, the 7th. of September of 1898.
During the management of the Engineer Agronomist Benito Carrasco, who happened to Thays (1914 - 1918), they were built into the Garden the School of Gardeners, the Library specialized in Botanical subjects and the Cabinet of Photography.
In 1996 by National Decree Nº 366 the Garden was declared “National Historical Monument”.
